Why Gymnastics

Gymnastics is one of the most fundamental and exciting of all physical activities. Basic gymnastic skills develop attributes that are perfect stepping-stones for other sports and activities involving flexibility, balance, strength and agility.

Through proper instruction, children enrolled in gymnastic programs demonstrate progress in a number of key development areas. All programs at Darwin Gymnastic Club are conducted by accredited or apprentice coaches with a high degree of professionalism.

Our club is hosted in the fully equipped sports hall of the Marrara Sports Complex and it is run by volunteers as a non profit organization. Our programs are designed to promote fun, friendship and fitness. With this philosophy in mind the Darwin Gymnastic Club has produced National Champions in team and individual events.

Kindygym

Kindygym is a challenging and fun movement program for children aged 1 to 4 years.

The program provides opportunities for young children to explore and develop their physical potential in a safe environment. Kindygym also develops children's social, emotional and cognitive abilities. As children progress through the program new and more challenging activities are introduced. This progression builds and improves children's confidence and self concept.

Parent participation is encouraged. One to three year olds in particular, value the security that parent involvement provides. So don't be shy, do join in.

Tumblers

The Tumbler program introduces gymnastics to children aged 5 to 8 years. Each lesson is the same throughout the week, allowing your child to attend as many lessons as they desire. This will benefit your child by allowing them to practice each element introduced to them during the lessons. Every lesson starts with a game followed by a stretch. The children learn skills on all eight apparatus followed by a short test on a skill at the end of the lesson. The results will be recorded on a coloured sheet of cardboard for the children to see at the end of each lesson. There will be eight tests during the ten week term. As each card is completed, the child will move onto the next program until all four programs have been completed.

At the end of each term the children will receive either a card for completing the Tumblers program or a certificate for participating in the Tumblers program. At the completion of all four cards in the Tumblers program your child will progress into a level one group.

Women's and Men's Artistic Gymnastics

The National levels stream has been designed to assist all gymnasts to develop gymnastics skills and at the same time provide a competitive stream based on age and ability. This system allows the gymnast the flexibility to move from level to level based on their own abilities. There are ten levels where the gymnast has the opportunity to compete at Club, Regional, State, National and International level.

Darwin Gymnastic Club provides programs for Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), which incorporates the Vault, Uneven Bars, Beam and the Floor and Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) , which encompasses the Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar.
